Prepare your pandal and a platter of sweets – it’s time for the brightest celebration of the year in Mississauga. This year, Diwali falls on October 24 and Mississauga will be lit up for the festivities. Here’s how you can celebrate!
Start the day by offering prayers at the famous Ram Mandir, temple of the deity celebrated on Diwali, Lakshmí. Its architecture, design and welcoming community attract worshipers from all over the world. You can also visit the temple ahead of the main day of celebration for Diwalifest. Held on October 22, the free festival features live performances including dancing and music, as well as vendors.
After prayers, tackle any outstanding Diwali shopping with a visit to Square One. There you’ll find a vast selection of stores to select gifts for your family and friends, as well as plenty of sweets, and maybe even some gold jewellery for yourself.
As evening comes, a visit to Illumi is a fitting way to celebrate the festival of lights. Featuring more than 20 million lights across 13 unique universes, including a tunnel of love and an animal kingdom just to start, it’s certain to bring some magic to your holiday.
Not up for preparing your own feast this year? Not a problem! Whether you’re looking for catering, take-out or a place to dine in, Mississauga has many options for delicious, authentic meals, including Daal Roti or The Maharajah (takeout only.)
Finally, take advantage of Mississauga’s special bylaw allowing residents to set off fireworks on private property (without a permit!) for the occasion. Treat your family and neighbours to a special display for a memory they won’t forget.
If you’re looking for more ways to celebrate, take part in one of these events:
- IndoPak Festival: Shop from an array of vendors while enjoying giveaways, games, food and entertainment at this exhibition in the Grand Taj Banquet Hall.
- Diwali Gala Dinner and Dance: Enjoy dinner, dancing, a portrait session and even a fire show at this gala hosted by Bollywood Social Toronto on October 22.
- Diwali Masti 2022: Book your tickets for an evening of delicious food, music, kids’ activities and live performances at Pearl Convention Centre on October 22.
