Mississauga is starting summer at full speed in Celebration Square with the Mississauga Half Marathon. The Square marks the starting line where you can join ‘Spectator Village’ to root on the racers. A looping course, participants can unwind with a massage or a meal in the Square post-race.

As the summer heats up, so does the fun with the opening of the city’s biggest wading pool the Fountain on May 19. Grab your swimsuit and make a splash, then lounge on the outdoor seating to snack on treats from the lineup of food trucks. Or, simply stroll around the Square enjoying the outdoor art before taking a break in the shade of the Queen’s Jubilee Garden.

It’s not called Celebration Square for nothing! From Fresh Air Fitness and the Lions Farmers Market to movie nights and concerts, the Square is home to hundreds of free events year-round. One of the biggest celebrations of all is Canada Day, when the Square is lit up with fireworks, live entertainment and fun activities for the whole family. It’s just one of the many can’t-miss Mississauga events.

Celebrate Culture at Fantastic Festivals

Beyond celebrating our own country, as a city made up of many cultures, Mississauga is home to many cultural festivals that promote an appreciation of the diversity of its citizens.

Beyond celebrating our own country, as a city made up of many cultures, Mississauga is home to many cultural festivals that promote an appreciation of the diversity of its citizens.

From May 26-28, you can explore the world at Carassauga. Known as the Festival of Cultures, visitors are treated to performances, authentic cuisine, activities and shopping across 25 cultural pavilions.

Next up, enjoy three days of entertainment at the Mississauga Latin Festival from July 28-30. The performances on Celebration Square’s main stage, including music and dance, are just the start of the festive fun. Marking its 15th anniversary, this year is sure to be bigger, better and more colourful than ever. Don’t miss the parade showcasing hundreds of unique costumes!

The Square will also host Japan Festival CANADA from August 19-20. Explore Japanese art, food and technology through performances, educational pavilions and activities. Learn about Japanese heritage and modern culture through music, dance and athletic shows on the cultural stage.

Italfest is another annual favourite happening in the heart of the city. Play some bocce then listen to Italian folklore before you get your fill at a pasta eating contest. Visit the artisan market to bring a piece of the festival home to enjoy until next year. With musicians, comedians and kid zone performers on that main stage, there’s fun to be had for the whole family.

Make sure you don’t miss out – stay tuned to the events calendar for all the latest cultural festivities.
