As the weather warms up, it’s the perfect time to get outside and get moving. From scenic walks and biking trails to climbing adventures, we’ve compiled some of our favourite ways to get active in Mississauga this Spring.
Explore the Sauga Sights on Foot
- Enjoy a dose of land and “sea” at Jack Darling Memorial Park and Rattray Marsh. During Spring, the marsh’s natural features start coming back to life, so there’s lots of new growth to wonder at as you wander through the conversation area. Afterward, head to Jack Darling – just steps away – to stroll around the shore of Lake Ontario and the lovely tall grass prairie. Dog owners can also let their pups get active in the park’s leash-free zone.
- If you prefer the hustle and bustle of the city, why not head out on an outdoor public art scavenger hunt? Grab the public art map and plan a walking route to spot as many pieces as you can. While not all of the works are within walking distance from each other, many are – and you’ll be rewarded with a dose of culture as you explore.
Conquer the Sauga Summit
- Want to join the ultimate active adventure? There’s still time to register for the Beneva Mississauga Marathon, happening on April 28. Starting in Spectator Village and travelling past scenic landmarks like the Port Credit Lighthouse, you won’t want to miss the GTA’s best marathon of the season. With a “Kids Trot,” 5K, 10K, half and full marathons to choose from, there’s an option for every age and ability. Those participating in the half marathon will have their time tracked for their ascent of the challenging Riverwood Lane summit.
Bike the City Scenery
- Mississauga is an incredible cycling haven, with tons of routes through the urban centre, quaint neighbourhoods, parks and trails. With the City’s cycling map, you can plan the perfect bike adventure. Bring a backpack with a light picnic and check out the waterfront trail route, stretching across the lakeshore, all the way to Lakefront Promenade Park where you can stop for a snack and enjoy the view.
- Beyond multi-use trails, Mississauga also has multiple mountain-BMX parks for perfecting your jumps and challenging yourself on new tracks. Windrush Woods is a local gem featuring dirt jumps surrounded by the natural beauty of the area’s mature woods. If you’d like to follow up your BMX excursion with even more action, visit Meadowvale Sports Park and take advantage of the baseball diamond or soccer field after you’ve worn out the BMX park.
Pick Up a New Sport
- Pickleball is all the rage lately, and Mississauga is getting in on the latest craze, with many courts throughout its parks. At Mississauga Valley Community Centre, you can also book sports equipment including pickleball racquets and balls, making this an affordable way to learn a new activity. If you’ve got your equipment, you can also play at the Mississauga Valley Park’s outdoor court, or one of the many other parks with public pickleball facilities.
Move Inside During Spring Showers
- When the weather keeps you indoors, stay active and have fun at one of Mississauga’s indoor attractions. Grab your Sauga Savings Pass and make your way to Cave Rock Climbing for a day of bouldering, where you’ll save 10% on admission. Visitors here must be ages 14+ so if you’d like to climb with young kids, check out Hub Climbing – perfect for even the youngest climbers. Don’t miss out on the area built just for kids, the Adventure Hub, with engaging obstacles, augmented reality walls and buildable structures to keep kids moving.
